Dear Dairy,
As I travel along, I come across a cottage; however, I deem it unsafe to enter
just yet, so I stay close by instead. I soon realize I can see into the cottage and observe the family within. The family is the De Lacey family, consisting of a father, son, and a daughter. As time passes, I learn that the father is blind, the boy’s name is Felix, and the girl’s name is Agatha. Old man Delacey is a descendant of a wealthy family in France and where he was considered superior and treated with respect. Felix had experience in serving is country and Agatha was a lady of high distinction. I begin to notice this family is poor and less fortunate than others. I gradually take note of the kindness and gratitude they show each other and take matters into my own hands. I decide to help the family out by searching for firewood and leaving it for them at their door.
The day had come when I no longer would watch the family from afar; The
children were gone for the day. I am now in the presence of the father. Holding his hand to be exact, he was unaware of what I looked like yet did not pull away. His blindness allowed him to refrain from immediately judging me like anyone else would. Surprisingly, Felix barges in; sees my appearance and reacts with a brutal attack. Meanwhile the daughter Agatha screams of terror. This experience has left me brokenhearted and disgusted with myself yet again.
